Brass Monkey 2023 – Bellarine Peninsula

The 2023 Brass Monkey was held on the 22nd and 23rd of July.

We were lucky with the weather, it was cold (as one would expect) but clear skys for the most part. It was the 21st Brass Monkey since Herb & Elwyn Hardidge and Jack & Phyllis Edmonds planned the first overnight run. It has been held every year except for the pandemic years.

NMA Royal DE36 Resto

The National Museum of Australia (NMA) in Canberra acquired a down-at-heel DE36 from South Australian winemaker John Harvey. This huge, rare car was used for the Queen’s 1954 tour of Australia, the painstaking restoration is now complete and can be viewed on the “Link” page and see their blog for progress reports!

Churchill’s Daimler sells for over $500,000

A super-rare Daimler DB18 drophead previously owned by Sir Winston Churchill has been sold at auction for over $500,000. The car, built in 1939, is one of only eight made with coachwork by Carlton and is the only survivor known, with four destroyed by bombing during WWII. Churchill used the open car for campaigning in the 1944 and ’48 UK election campaigns.
